Soszyn Calabash Vessels

 

Gourds for centuries were used to carry food, water and milk and used by many native peoples for making instruments such as drums and rattles. They have been widely used in Africa, South America and by Native Americans. Today many farmers continue to grow them all over the US. . 

 

Another fun traditionally American gourd craft is making birdhouses.
